December 7 through 9th Campout Details

Location

Uvas Canyon Park, Upper Bench Youth Campground (Reservations need to be made.)

Directions

Starting at the intersection of First St. (Hecker Pass Hwy) and Sta. Teresa Blvd., go west on Hecker Pass for 2.8 miles. Turn right on Watsonville Road. Continue on Watsonville Rd. for 3.6 miles. Turn left on Uvas Road. Continue on Uvas Rd. for 5.9 miles. Turn left on Croy Rd. Continue on Croy Rd. for 4.4 miles, through Svedal.

Schedule

Friday evening: Boy Scouts (and Webelos and P794 Bears with brothers in Boy Scouts) arrive in uniform, then leave uniforms in cars. Only hot cocoa provided. Rehearse songs for Saturday campfire.

Saturday

7:00 AM Reveille, build fire or prepare gas stove. Breakfast. Clean up. Prepare campsite for arrival of Cub Scouts.

9:30 AM Boy Scouts put on uniforms. Webelos and P794 Bears arrive in uniform.



Sunday

7:00 AM Reveille, boil water for cocoa. Cold breakfast (rolls, etc.).

Next Break camp. Clean up area.

Final Scout's Own. Review campout. Leave together at the same time.

  • tent, ground cloth (a.k.a. "footprint")
  • warm sleeping bag
  • pad or air mattress
  • spaceblanket (recommended more for backpacking, but when unused small enough to keep in backpack)
  • mess kit (including utensils)
  • warm jacket
  • sweater or sweatshirt
  • beanie (tuque)
  • water bottle
  • toilet paper
  • soap, washcloth, toothbrush
  • first-aid kit and compass (Boy Scouts)
  • appropriate shoes for hiking
  • rain poncho
  • Scout handbook
  • personal first-aid kit (Boy Scouts)
  • flashlight
  • Sierra cup
  • change of clothes (especially socks)
  • grooming kit (washcloth, soap, toothbrush, comb)
  • garbage bag (to use as backpack cover in case of rain)
